![]() ![]() I am getting away from yahoo, gmail, and the like, and moving to protonmail, which provide for privacy. And to be fair, I haven't actually tried to setup my Yahoo! account on Outlook 365 yet so don't take this is "The Way To Get A New Outlook App Password For My Yahoo! Email Account" yet. I also did this following FarmForce's advice about asking Yahoo! to generate a password on a different computer than the one my Outlook 365 is on. I'm sure I didn't have this option previously for my Desktop but maybe I just wasn't paying attention to the bottom of the page.:). ![]() It now informs me that my new Outlook app is in operation, when it was activated and to delete it if I don't want it. So I just assumed I could re-use that name. I had been using "Outlook Desktop" because - as far as I could see at the time - Yahoo! wasn't telling me that this app name was already being used and a password had been given for that. On a whim I told Yahoo! my app's name was Outlook "New Second Word" (I picked a word other than Desktop) and - Finally! - I got a password generated. I found the issue I had was I was asking for a password to be generated for my new Outlook365 was I was giving Outlook the same name - Outlook Desktop - as my previous Outlook 2016 had. eml, and then open the file - it should automatically open in Outlook, and can then be copied to any Outlook folder. In Yahoo webmail, click the three dots at the top and then View raw message, then save it as a file with extension. I see no point in waiting any longer when Yahoo are showing total contempt for their customers!įYI there is a workaround to copy/export e-mails from Yahoo to the Outlook client, but it's a tedious manual process that needs to be done separately for each e-mail. As per my post yesterday, we can either wait in the (probably futile!) hope that they will eventually fix this fault, or switch to another e-mail provider that's not run by grossly unprofessional a**hats! Despite the huge inconvenience, I've been updating my online accounts to use a new address with, which does allow POP/SMTP to function correctly. Same for me! I've been using Yahoo Mail for 20 years but can no longer configure POP/SMTP access from the Windows Outlook client s/w as Yahoo disabled app password generation five months ago and are evidently doing f*ck all to fix it, because they simply don't give a sh*t about their customers. It's a totally sh*t situation, but it very clearly demonstrates Yahoo's blatant contempt for their customers, whom they treat with no respect whatsoever! It's a totally mismanaged and disorganised f*ck up! Utterly pathetic!įor those of us affected by this problem, we really have only two options - wait for Yahoo to fix this problem (which looks like it will never happen!) or go through the tedious manual process of removing our Yahoo Mail addresses from all our online accounts and replacing them with addresses from a different e-mail provider that truly does support POP/SMTP/IMAP access, such as or Gmail. So it's evident that with regard to this problem, Yahoo are acting with gross unprofessionalism. Furthermore, Yahoo gave no advance warning of their decision to "disable" generation of app passwords last May, the Account Security page gives no indication that it's been disabled (until you actually click the button and the error appears), and all their Help pages relating to POP/SMTP/IMAP still state that app passwords can be generated, even though it has not been possible for months. ![]() Likewise, I've been working in IT for decades (30+ years), and it's f'ing obvious that after 5 months of not resolving this fault, Yahoo do not consider this to be important, are making no effort to fix it, and don't give a sh*t that their customers are greatly inconvenienced. "The developers are still working on the issue" sounds like total BS to me. ![]()
